The bipartisan debt compromise bill was passed to prevent America from defaulting on its commitments. Now, we face the prospect of a "supercommittee" of 12 members of Congress who will propose between $1.2-$1.5 trillion in savings by Thanksgiving. If their recommendations are unable to pass, then automatic cuts will go into place. Social Security is exempted from those cuts, but Medicare would be on the chopping block.
